Edibles for Pain: A New View
Here is some blunt honesty, no pun intended. I used to be a product of the 80s and my conservative upbringing, seeing c___ as a gateway drug. We all remember the egg frying in the pan, "this is your brain, this is your brain on drugs." I viewed mj with strong disdain and judgement.
Fast forward a half a lifetime... A dear friend had to undergo a hip replacement mid life. He knew the dangers and temptation op__ids offered. For the first few days he went the traditional route and followed his doctors prescription protocol. He felt immense relief from op__ids, not only did his pain disappear, his mindset lifted dramatically. He felt good, too good, and he knew it.
Knowing himself and understanding the lure the pharmaceutical drugs offered, he moved away from the standard of care prescription and instead chose c_____. He managed his pain as his body healed thru the wonders of c____ rather than continue down a dangerous path towards possible addiction and entrapment.
After having such a close encounter watching a man suffering from pain and seeing the relief c____ brought him, my worldview shifted. I was humbled. My narrow mind opened.
I also personally discovered the relaxing ability of T_C and C_D. After suffering for decades to severe insomnia, a homemade tincture now helps me dramatically at night. But alas that's a story for another blog.
I now am part of a team that brings relief to thousands. I'm thankful to have shed my judgement and be part of this country's shift in view, seeking better lives for those afflicted by pain.
Moving on from my story... Now on to something more base of what you would expect to see in a blog about edibles and pain...
How Edibles Work for Pain
Unlike smoking or vaping, which provide quick but short-lived relief, edibles take longer to kick in but offer sustained benefits that can last for several hours.
Edibles contain c_binoids like T_C and C_D, which interact with the body’s endoc____system (ECS) to help regulate pain and inflammation. When consumed, edibles are metabolized by the liver, converting T_C into a more potent form that provides extended relief. C_D, known for its anti-inflammatory properties, can help reduce swelling and discomfort without the intoxicating effects of T_C.
Types of Pain Edibles Can Help With
- Chronic pain (arthritis, fibromyalgia, back pain)
- Inflammation-related pain (migraines, autoimmune disorders)
- Muscle soreness (post-workout recovery)
- Nerve pain (neuropathy, multiple sclerosis)
- Menstrual cramps
- Post-surgical pain (for those seeking alternatives to opioids)
Dosage and Timing
Edibles typically take 30-90 minutes to take effect, so it’s important to plan accordingly. Beginners should start with a low dose (2.5-5mg of T_C or C_D) and increase gradually as needed. Effects can last 4-8 hours, making them a convenient option for ongoing pain relief. For those needing continuous relief, microdosing throughout the day can be effective.
Choosing the Right Edible
- C_D-dominant edibles for inflammation and mild pain
- T_C-dominant edibles for stronger pain relief
- Balanced T_C/C_D ratios for a combination of effects
- Fast-acting edibles (like tinctures or lozenges) for quicker onset
- Fat-based edibles (like chocolates or baked goods) for sustained effects
Potential Side Effects and Considerations
While edibles are generally well-tolerated, they can have side effects such as dry mouth, drowsiness, or dizziness, especially at higher doses. It’s important to start with a low dose and wait for effects before consuming more. Additionally, T_C can cause psychoactive effects, so individuals who prefer to avoid this should opt for C_D-only edibles.
